Subject: Chicken Pox Cases - Interlochen Center for the Arts Summer Camp
Message: The Grand Traverse County Health Department is reporting 2 chicken pox cases at the Interlochen Center for the Arts Summer Camp session July 20 - August 10. Two 13 year old boys from the same cabin have been diagnosed with chicken pox 2 weeks apart. Campers will be leaving between August 7 and August 10. There are 1600 campers that have attended this 3 week session. 160 live throughout Michigan, and the remaining come from all areas of the United States, and some reside internationally. In addition, there are 300 staff members, who primarily reside in the Grand Traverse region. The incubation period of chicken pox can range from 10 - 21 days. Chicken pox is a reportable disease in Michigan, and should be reported to the local Health Department serving the jurisdiction of case residence. Michigan cases determined to be associated with the Interlochen Arts Academy Camp session July 20 - August 10, 2015 should be entered into MDSS using "2015IAC" as the outbreak name.
