The Emergency Preparedness (EP) Basic Training is intended to establish knowledge of federal EP regulations and the ability to identify circumstances of noncompliance with individual federal regulations for each affected provider and supplier type. Compliance with EP regulations is a factor for facilities’ eligibility for funding from CMS. This 17-hour, self-paced training can bolster proficiency with conducting EP surveys and understanding of how the EP regulations overlap across multiple provider types. The course is geared for surveyors but has been made available to the public for provider/supplier education. The course updates reflect the 2019 Burden Reduction changes, as well as additional guidance and clarifications, to include preparedness for emerging infectious diseases. Yale New Haven Health just released results from a crosswalk that mapped various emergency- and disaster-related standards to the CMS Rule. And we recently updated the CMS EP Rule: Resources at Your Fingertips document, which includes links to key resources, such as CMS' fourth round of frequently asked questions (FAQ) and clarifications on definitions. The document compares the Final CMS Rule, Past CMS Rule and the 2016 Joint Commission Requirements. Regions should continue to access TRACIE for updated documents.
Attached is the October 28, 2016, Emergency Preparedness CMS Survey and Certification memo that may be of interest to share with coalition members. This memo provides some insights into the timeline and process for CMS surveyors who will begin evaluating the new requirements after November 15, 2017.
