The following information was supplied by the Office of Public Health Preparedness in the April 2015 issue of The Guardian of Public Health. Effective April 1, 2015, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will implement the use of a Student Identification (SID) number for all Independent Study course registrations. The FEMA SID number will serve as a person’s personal identification number instead of a Social Security Number (SSN) in support of FEMA’s effort to decrease and cease the use of an SSN for identifying and tracking individuals. A FEMA SID number is required to register for and participate in any training provided by FEMA. All FEMA training providers’ registration systems and enrollment procedures require a valid FEMA SID. This number will serve as a person’s unique identifier and be used to maintain the record of FEMA training attended by students.
Obtaining a SID Number The use of an SSN or Alternate ID number will cease after April 1 for all Independent Study courses, so it is recommended that all students not wait and immediately register for a FEMA SID number. To obtain a FEMA SID number: 1. Go tohttps://cdp.dhs.gov/femasid. 2. Click on the “Register for a FEMA SID” box in the middle of the screen. 3. Follow the instructions and provide the necessary information to create an account. 4. An email will be received with the SID number. This number should be saved in a secure location.
