Summary

Offered by the Rural Domestic Preparedness Consortium this course was valuable to the Region 7 Health Care Coalition because
it outlined the impact and recovery tied to a food borne or agroterrorism event. The close to 60 attendees had the opportunity to work through exercises that utilized their knowledge on how to work with local, state and federal agencies for a food borne disaster. Time was also spent discussing the recovery aspects of a food borne disaster that would be vital to local and regional recovery.

January 15-16, 2014
Summary

The Assistant Coordinator attended the ICS 300 course at the Marysville Fire Department with other attendees from EMS, Public Health and Hospitals located in Southeastern Michigan. Participants were broken up into two groups throughout the two day scenario-based training. The scenario was based around an armed bank robber running away from the scene of the crime, ducking into the Emergency Department entrance of a hospital. The gunman then grabbed a nurse and pulled her into an exam room, holding her hostage. The scenario escalated throughout each learning unit, leaving the two teams in the classroom to determine the following; which command and general staff members should be present and what are their roles, what are the SMART objectives, come up with a planning process, what resources are needed, and how to demobilize the teams.
