December Updates:

12/20/2023

Western Regional Alliance for Pediatric Emergency Management (WRAP-EM) Multi-Health Care Coalition (HCC) Chemical or Pediatric Surge Virtual Tabletop Exercise
WRAP-EM is considering conducting a series of multi-HCC chemical or pediatric surge virtual tabletop exercises to validate annexes/plans as was hosted by WRAP-EM in 2022-23. The exercises would be held in the February-April 2024 timeframe. In addition to fulfilling Hospital Preparedness Program (HPP) requirements, there are potential benefits for HCCs to share and learn from each other by participating jointly in a virtual tabletop exercise. Click the image below for more information or use the QR code to complete the interest form.

WRAP-EM (Western Regional Alliance for Pediatric Emergency Management) Pediatric Surge Playbook

The playbook is sectioned out into 3 domains: 1) Hospitals or hospital systems; 2) Healthcare Coalitions; 3) Pediatric Medical Operations Coordination Centers (PMOCCs). The playbook is NOT intended for rapid pediatric surge responses such as a mass casualty incident (MCI). Take a look at the Playbook and see if there is anything to strengthen Pediatric Medical Surge Plan.

Checklist of Essential Pediatric Domains for Hospitals
One of the most significant gaps in hospital readiness for children is the lack of hospital policies that address children under every day and disaster conditions. Is your community hospital in that situation and needs help including children in preparedness policies? This resource will help! The Checklist of Essential Pediatric Domains and Considerations for Every Hospital’s Disaster Preparedness Policies is a tool to help hospital administrators and leadership incorporate essential pediatric considerations into existing hospital disaster policies. Click to download (PDF) and view the following video that explains the checklist from colleagues at the American Academy of Pediatrics Disaster Council.

Pediatric Medical Surge Plan Posted to MIHAN
Hospital Preparedness Program (HPP) staff have been working diligently to get documents completed and posted to the MIHAN. Most recently, the Pediatric Medical Surge Plan was completed and posted.
To find this document and many other new documents, log into MIHAN and go to: Documents – Resource Sharing – Operational Guidelines/Plans/Document.

NOTE: If you don’t have access to the MIHAN and would like a copy of the Pediatric Medical Surge Plan, please contact Lauren Korte at [email protected].
