Several counties in the state are conducting mosquito surveillance for Aedes vectors of Zika, as of August 8, 2016 none have been detected. Michigan will continue to identify cases of Zika virus in residents who travel to areas where Zika virus is being transmitted locally. Pregnant women should not travel to areas with active Zika transmission. If they must travel, they should take precautions to prevent mosquito bites. Travel advisories now include limited areas of Southern Florida where local Zika transmission has been documented. See the most up-to-date travel advisories here Testing guidance for Michigan healthcare providers and local public health are available here For non-pregnant women and men who travel and experience no symptoms, it is recommended they prevent pregnancy for at least eight weeks after their return. For men who return from travel and do have symptoms, it is recommended they use condoms for six months after their return. Men who have a pregnant partner and have been in an area with Zika transmission should either use condoms the right way every time they have sex, or not have sex for the duration of the pregnancy.
