Michigan has been working to develop innovative strategies to provide care to burn patients after an emergency event. The plan develops non-traditional burn care resources to provide surge capacity during a mass casualty incident.

​This strategy protects those facilities with definitive burn care capacity from being overwhelmed through the use of off-site triage and stabilization. This is done in collaboration and coordination with the University of Michigan Burn Center which serves as the State Burn Coordinating Center.

Burn Surge training will take place on October 7, 2016 in St. Ignace, MI. To qualify for the hands on training, participants MUST complete the online portion of the training on the ABLS website. Once the online training has been completed, a certificate of completion will be awarded to participants. Participants must bring this certificate to the hands on training in St. Ignace. 

Hands on training will include, but is not limited to:

• Lectures
• Working side by side with nurses
• Dressing burn wounds
• Database access
• and more!
