Say What? The Ins and Outs of Communicating in a Disaster
Communication is often disrupted at a children’s hospital during a disaster, outbreak, surge, or any other unusual event. Waiting until the next event to determine the best ways to communicate with your colleagues is not ideal. Internal communication during a disaster (across and within departments), as well as external communication (city, state, and regional hospitals, public health, primary care clinicians, law enforcement, and other responders), is crucial. Having a good plan in place for communicating during a disaster is key to making sure the response goes as smoothly and efficiently as possible. During this webinar, representatives from the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles and the Mountain States Pediatric Disaster Coalition will speak about their experiences in establishing plans for communication. The presenters will share models and strategies, and provide examples of how information sharing and communication can be improved at your hospital during a disaster.
