Supporting and Sustaining the Current and Future Workforce to Care for People with Serious Illness – April 27 and 28, 2023

The National Academies Roundtable on Quality Care for People with Serious Illness will convene a public workshop April 27-28 to explore issues related to supporting and sustaining the interdisciplinary workforce to care for people with serious illness. ​

The workshop will feature presentations and discussions that explore topics such as:

• The significant impact of the pandemic (workforce shortages, moral distress, trauma) on the workforce caring for people with serious illness.
• The importance of leadership, partnerships, and care delivery models (such as palliative care) to help support the well-being of all members of the interdisciplinary team caring for people with serious illness.
• Ways in which health care institutions and organizations, professional associations and other health care partners can advance diversity, equity, and inclusion within the workforce caring for people with serious illness.
• Innovative approaches to workforce recruitment, training, and retention.
